Video Consultation
What is a video consultation?
A video consultation is an opportunity to discuss your questions and concerns around writing and publishing. Some authors use this service to work through a specific problem with their manuscript that they were struggling to resolve. Others have had me talk them through the different publishing options (traditional, self, and hybrid) and help them decide which route to pursue. I have also discussed topics such as copyright issues and permissions in the past, but I am not a specialist in this topic and can only give general advice.
What does it include?
Before our meeting, I will confirm the topic you want to discuss and do any necessary research. If you want to discuss a problem with your manuscript or other written work, I will read up to 5,000 words as part of the service, or a longer piece at an additional cost. After the meeting, I will share a summary of what we discussed along with a list of any relevant resources.
What does it cost?
I have a base fee of $100 for the first hour. Any additional time is charged at $25 per thirty minutes.
Manuscript Evaluation
What is a manuscript evaluation?
A manuscript evaluation is an assessment of the major elements of your manuscript, such as the premise, plot, theme, structure, characterization, setting, tone, and marketability. After reading your manuscript, I create an editorial letter that details the strengths of weaknesses of your manuscript and provides guidance on how to improve it. If you have any questions about the feedback I have given, I will happily answer them over email or on a video call.
Who is it good for?
This service is good for experienced writers who are confident in taking general feedback and applying it to their own work. It is also a good option for authors on a budget, those who need a quick turn around time, and those who prefer a more hands-off approach to editing.
What does it cost?
Starting from $0.02 per word.
Developmental Editing
What is developmental editing?
Like a manuscript evaluation, developmental editing addresses major elements such as the premise, plot, theme, structure, characterization, setting, tone, and marketability. I will read through your manuscript and create an editorial letter that details the strengths of weaknesses of your manuscript and provides guidance on how to improve it. I will also provide more specific recommendations through comprehensive in-document feedback. If you have any questions about the feedback I have given, I will happily answer them over email or on a video call.
Who is it good for?
This service is good for newer writers who want help pinpointing exactly where and how to improve their writing. It is also good for experienced writers who prefer a more hands-on approach to editing.
What does it cost?
Starting from $0.035 per word.
Line Editing
What is line editing?
This service is a combination of stylistic editing and copyediting. Over two rounds of editing, I address elements such as sentence and paragraph length, pacing, flow, and tone as well as spelling, grammar, and punctuation. After each round of editing, you will receive a copy of your manuscript that has been marked up with comments and in-line edits to guide your revisions. I will also create a style sheet to track any spelling, grammar, or punctuation choices, and I will provide you with this document upon completion of my editing services.
Who is it good for?
This service is good for authors who have already completed a developmental edit, and for those who do not need or want any story-level feedback.
What does it cost?
Starting from $0.03 per word.
Editing Package
What is an editing package?
An editing package is a combination of developmental editing and line editing, completed over the course of three rounds of editing. The first edits is a developmental edit, offering you story-level feedback. The second edit addresses any lingering structural issues and begins addressing line-by-line issues such as clarity and tone. The final edit polishes your manuscript and prepares it for formatting. I create a style sheet as part of this service and provide it to you after the final round of edits.
Who is it good for?
Authors who know they want both developmental editing and line editing, and who want to work with a single editor for both services.

Editing on a Budget
What is this service?
Editing is an investment that not everyone can afford. While I cannot offer my services for a reduced fee at this time, I am always willing to discuss your budget and come up with a plan for what I can provide within that. For example, I can evaluate specific parts of your manuscript that you need the most help with, or I can perform line editing on a certain number of chapters so you have feedback you can apply to the rest of your book.
