Stories matter.

I’m here to help you share yours.

As a freelance editor, I provide developmental and line editing for a wide variety of projects, with a focus on memoirs, self-help books, and other nonfiction works.

Who I am and what I do

Like many editors, my career began with an early love of reading. I was the kid who stashed books under her mattress and got in trouble for staying up late to devour them. This passion for reading stories has blossomed into a passion for helping people create them. I started editing as a side gig in 2007 and turned it into my career in 2017. Throughout this time, I’ve worked on everything from magazine articles and blogs to fiction novels and self-help books. While I enjoy working with writers of all levels, I specialize in helping first-time authors publish their debut book. My goal with every client is to help them elevate their writing while also respecting their unique voice.

One of my favourite phrases to share with people who ask about my work is that editing is an art, not a science. If you’re looking for a strict grammarian, I’m not your person! I understand the importance of good grammar and syntax, but I also believe that intentional rule breaking has its place, especially in creative works.

I have completed the Editing Certificate Program through Simon Fraser University and continue to hone my craft through various courses and webinars. As a member of Editors Canada, I have been a beta tester for the certification exams and currently run the Editors Kingston twig.

Testimonials

“Danielle has a wonderful way of understanding how to keep an author focused on what their message is. She actually asked this going in and then kept me on track. It was difficult, but I learned to love and respect her incredible talents and know it made my book so much better.”

“Danielle was a great choice as editor of my book. She really took the time to understand what I was trying to get across, and she ‘got it!’ Any suggested changes she made were excellent and enhanced the book. I highly recommend her!”

“I highly recommend Danielle to anyone looking for top notch editing from a highly organized, professional, kind, and collaborative editor! She’s simply a joy to work with and the only person that I would hire for any future editing services.”

“Danielle was open to opposing views on what should be cut, edited, or changed and was very willing to work with me. I’m working on a memoir, and I wouldn’t want anyone else to edit my work. I highly recommend her for your editing needs.”
